Chapter News

Atascosa County
It’s been a hot summer in Atascosa County and we are ready for dove season. Our chapter will be helping put on a DOVE 101 class at Paloma Pachanga for Hunt Hondo on August 12. You will also see us working a booth at the Uvalde Dove Expo at Oasis Outback on September 23rd. We are excited and honored to go out into our community and spread our love and knowledge about dove hunting and conservation.

Our first washers and horseshoe tournament back in May was a huge success. Even though the May sun was showing no mercy, we had an excellent turn out and were able to raise $937 for future events in our area. Along with the funds raised, we are proud to announce we signed up six new members to our chapter. We will be holding another tournament September 30th in Poteet at the Lion’s Club and hope to see our chapter continue to grow. Stay tuned… exciting things are happening in Atascosa County!

Our first Bag Limit Banquet was a lot of fun and brought together new and old members from all over the Houston area. We will be running the TDHA booth at the Houston TTHA Hunters Extravaganza the first weekend in August. Our next big event will be our 4th annual Pullin’ for Kids Sporting Clay Shoot on Saturday, October 7 at Texas Premiere Sporting Arms in Sealy. If you are interested in serving on the shoot committee or the committee for the 2018 Bag Limit Banquet call Tim or Ashley at 281-498-0588.

Texas A&M University
We are looking forward to getting back to work this fall bringing in more new members and spreading the word about TDHA. We are going to be focusing on kids in the community this year and are making plans to host a Youth Day in College Station. We are looking forward to volunteering at the San Antonio Youth Day in August so we can learn more about what is involved in putting on an event of this magnitude.

This past year we joined up with Texas A&M DU chapter and Texas A&M’s TTHA chapter for a number of socials and swapped tables at banquets. We are looking forward to growing our relationship with them and other wildlife organizations on campus who are working for similar causes. We now have our own Texas A&M Dove Hunters flag for tailgates and other events. Be on the lookout for it this fall and come by and say Howdy!

Texas State University

Our Texas State chapter had a social before spring finals in May and came up with some new ways to grow the organization at Texas State. This year’s focus will be DOVE 101 seminars. We are looking forward to hosting a couple of them in our area. We will also be volunteering at TDHA Youth Day in August.

Look for our table in the quad this year. We’ll be out there selling merchandise and hoping to meet fellow hunters who want to get involved.

San Antonio

Youth day on August 19 is currently the big focus for our San Antonio volunteers. Our youth program director has planned and organized the event and we are looking forward to having at least 30-40 volunteers to help things run safely and smoothly. We need all hands-on deck for this event as we are anticipating a large turnout of kids and families. San Antonio has a strong core group of volunteers who are eager to help. We hosted a DOVE 101 training at the end of July at the National Shooting Complex with more than a dozen volunteers from all over the state who will now be able to host DOVE 101 seminars in their area.

We appreciate our San Antonio area volunteers as they offer their time and assistance at the corporate office helping put together member packets for mailing during this busy time of year. We can always use help in the office. If anyone is interested in volunteering for a couple of hours, call us at 210-764-1189 and we will put you to work.

Houston
The guns of autumn are fast approaching and the dove season will be here before we know it. To help prepare for the upcoming season the Houston chapter will be manning a booth at the TTHA Hunter’s Extravaganza on August 4th-6th at the NRG Center. We have a list of volunteers that will be manning the booth and if you would like to help please contact Ashley at 281-498-0588 for coverage opportunities. Our next big fundraising event will be our Pullin’ For Kids Clay Shoot scheduled for October 7th at Texas Premier Sporting Arms in Sealy, TX. so, save the date and make it a point to come out and support this great organization. The TDHA Houston chapter continues to grow and we welcome all to get involved and make this chapter the best in Texas. Until then stay safe and enjoy the great outdoors.
